David Cook Announces Candidacy for Texas Senate District 22
MANSFIELD, TX — State Representative David Cook has officially announced his candidacy for Texas Senate District 22. The announcement comes following the retirement of State Senator Brian Birdwell, who served the district for 15 years.
Cook, who currently represents Texas House District 96, emphasized his appreciation for Senator Birdwell’s years of service and described him as “the personification of a servant leader, in both word and deed.” Cook noted that Birdwell’s legacy leaves “enormous shoes to fill” and highlighted the importance of continuing to address challenges facing the district.
“Today, I’m officially announcing my campaign for Texas Senate,” Cook stated in his announcement. “Over the years, we’ve faced a wave of growth and change, bringing both opportunities and challenges that continue to impact our way of life. These realities don’t stop at district lines. They affect communities across SD 22 in much the same way. I am stepping forward because these challenges require experience, follow-through, and the time necessary to commit fully to the work ahead.”
Cook also expressed that, while much has been accomplished, “there’s more work to be done,” and he looks forward to earning the support of voters in Senate District 22 during the campaign trail.
A longtime Mansfield resident, Cook previously served as Mayor of Mansfield from 2008 to 2021 before being elected to the Texas House of Representatives, where he is now serving his third term. In addition to his legislative work, Cook is the Managing Partner of Harris Cook L.L.P.
Cook and his wife, Tonya, are longtime residents of Mansfield. They are the parents of four children and grandparents to six grandchildren, with a seventh on the way.

Senate District 22 includes parts of North Texas and is expected to be a key seat in the upcoming election cycle. As the race begins to take shape, local voters and political observers will be watching closely to see who else enters the race and what issues will define the campaign.
